From the Director's Chair...

It's hard for me to believe that 39 years ago I went to the Toronto production of Godspell when I was a student; that 20 years ago Musical Theatre was "reborn" at Catholic Central with Godspell under the direction of Peter Mueller and that I was stage manager just starting my teaching ministry; that 10 years ago under the direction of David Mikuliak, I won the coveted "Oops I did it again!" award for setting off the confetti canon (twice) in pre-checks as lighting board operator! And now I have the privilege and honour of directing our 20th anniversary musical! What a thrill! What a challenge!

Tonight, our story unfolds under Lethbridge 's high level bridge in a fenced off area used for the storage of discarded objects which becomes the home for Jesus and his disciples. Under the bridge, Jesus begins his ministry to a group of mismatched people from all walks of life not unlike us. Through stories, song and living his message, Jesus' affects change to the relationships within the community. To help focus your attention on the message and actions of Jesus and his disciples, our set is modest in design yet rich in meaning. From the irregular stadium seating to the structure of the table used for the last supper, all are meant to invite you into the reality of Jesus, to be open to "Living Word".

As most of you know, especially the parents and spouses of the production team, a musical takes "passion, selflessness, fun", and patience! The cast has been working at least 5 days a week after school since beginning of November fine tuning their skills and natural talents as well as stepping out of his/her comfort zone to act, sing and dance! The crew especially Drew, has been working tirelessly behind the scenes, to make you the audience feel at home as part of the story. The Band has been "rehearsing and nursing their parts" for weeks. The Production Staff started this project last June planning, organizing and putting all the pieces together. All have done their very best to bring you this opportunity to enter into the story of the Unconditional Lover - Jesus! I am not sure if this will be the start of a future in the theatre for any of our cast, band or crew as did the Toronto's production do for Victor Garber, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Gilda Radner, Dave Thomas, and Martin Short, and the show's musical director Paul Shaffer, but I am sure that this production will be remembered for the rest of all our lives!

Musical theatre has flourished over the years here at CCH thanks to commitment and dedication of many people. Here are a few changes I have noticed that have happened between these two productions:
